DiagnosticsWhy should I call Texas Hill Country Tree Service for a diagnosis? Accurate diagnosis of tree health and structure problems require:
Diagnosis is a complex task requiring expertise in such areas as Tree Risk Assessment and Structural Defect Identification (wounds, cankers, decays, etc.). Communication of that diagnosis is also important, ensuring that the client understands the recommendations of the Arborist and becomes vested in the recovery of a sick tree. Among the most important issues the client can perform to aid in this recovery are:
International Society of Arboriculture Member - The International Society of Arboriculture has been working hard with its members to raise the standard of professional tree care. The decision to choose the right arborist is very important. Trees are a lifelong investment and you want to protect that investment.
ISA Certified Arborist - This is the largest group of credential holders. These professional arborists have a minimum of three years experience in some aspect of tree care and have passed an exam developed by an international panel of experts. The exam extensively covers every aspect of tree care and the individuals must have an acceptable level of knowledge in all areas of arboriculture.
Oak Wilt Certified - Oak Wilt Certified identifies that the individual Arborist is ISA Certified and has received special training on the identification and management of Oak Wilt.
Removals / Pruning
The removal of small trees offers no special problems. As a homeowner you may want to tackle this small job yourself. Of course disposal can offer a challenge especially if the tree is infected and must be removed from the property. Of course, as trees grow and increase in size, both in height and width, they become more difficult to remove, making the services of a professional highly desirable. This poses another problem, who to hire? When choosing, look for a company that is reputable, has the necessary equipment, a proven ability and verifiable financial responsibility.
PruningPruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure. As a homeowner, your trees require a higher level of care to maintain their safety and aesthetics. Pruning should be done with an understanding of how the tree responds to each cut. Improper pruning can cause damage that will last for the life of your tree or worse, shorten the tree's life span.
When preparing to prune, be aware that each cut has the potential to change or alter the new growth of your tree. No limb should be removed without a reason. An ISA Certified Arborist can assist you in making the right decisions... whether it pertains to a young or mature tree. Common reasons for pruning include the removal of dead wood, crowded or interfering limbs and the elimination of potential hazards. Additionally, trees may be pruned to increase light and movement of air through to the landscape. In most cases, this type of pruning (structural pruning) is required annually or biannually. Structural pruning is always based on the character and genetics of the tree. It should never be compromised. Under the guidance of a Registered and Board Certified Master Arborists an expert with the education and knowledge of tree biology - proper pruning can maintain good tree health and structure while enhancing the aesthetic and economic values of your landscape.
Lightning protection systems installed in trees are designed to protect large, old, valuable, historic/heritage trees in Texas. Lightning is grounded by utilizing copper conductors that extend from the top of the tree, through the main branches and trunk and out beyond the root zone.
Other trees that warrant protection are trees within a structure and those alone in a landscape, park or golf course (anywhere people tend to congregate).
Note: The Texas Forest Service publishes a list of the largest trees in Texas. “The Texas Big Tree Registry”. Trees come and go on the list. One reason trees are replaced is because of storm damage (lightning).
Tree Myth: Lightning does not strike in the same place twice.
